Despite its questionable name, Los Angeles-based brand Crap Eyewear creates funky sunglasses that are not only stylish but eco-friendly.

According to Crap Eyewear, the brand was born to counter the overpriced and overly serious sunglass market. By creating cool and sustainably made sunglasses without any egregious retail markup, Crap Eyewear certainly doesn’t live up to its motto of “don’t worry, be crappy.”

All of Crap Eyewear’s sunglasses are made from bioacetate, a biodegradable and plant-based frame material. With environmental responsibility in mind, the brand also ships its sunglasses in recycled/recyclable paper free from single-use plastic. As the brand grows, they say that more upcycled packaging and new lens materials are expected.

To make up for its imperfections, Crap Eyewear tracks and fully offsets its total carbon footprint, making them a Climate Neutral certified brand. As a little plus, they also donate 1% of annual sales to environmental nonprofit 1% For The Planet.

“We’re proud of what we’ve done so far but know there is much more we can (and will) do. This is a work in progress and we’re committed to ongoing improvement,” says Crap Eyewear.
