Vogue Taiwan Sustainability

For Vogue Taiwan‘s January 2022 issue, sustainability takes centre stage with the front cover featuring a popsicle made from polluted water and waste.

The polluted popsicles are made by experimental artists Hung I-chen, Guo Yi-hui and Cheng Yu-ti of the National Taiwan University of Arts. To create the popsicles, the artists collected polluted water from various contaminated sources in Taiwan.

“Would you like a treat? Flavor : 100% polluted water + a dash of daily waste,” says stylist Joey lin. “For our January issue, we want to start a conversation about sustainability. A topic which is very challenging, controversial yet inevitable to talk about in the fashion industry. By stepping into a brand new year, may we treat this beloved planet in a better and more considerate way.”

“A deformed beauty was eventually laid to rest with no peace in sight. The suffocated mermaid lived in a sorrowful and compromised environment – suffered much in pain and torture,” says photographer Zhong Lin. “This is the vision I see in the near future as many talks about the foreboding environment issues. Therefore, every tiny steps count. Let’s do our part and make a change.”
