Expanding on its Renew program, American footwear company Converse is teaming up with streetwear purveyor Carhartt WIP (Work in Progress) on a special iteration of the former’s iconic Chuck 70 sneaker silhouette.
The collaborative Carhartt WIP x Converse Renew Chuck 70 model is constructed from upcycled textiles from the famed work garment brand, such as vintage and pre-loved Carhartt jackets, trousers and overalls all sourced by the UK–based fashion and vintage retailer, Beyond Retro.
A thousand pre-owned Carhartt items were sorted into three different contrasting color ranges and then cut to create the high-top sneaker’s tri-color upper; the medial sides are dressed in Khaki, lateral walls are constructed from navy hues, and black accents the spine. Throughout the sneaker’s upper, exposed white stitching elevates the tri-color panels, a featured characteristic of the Carhartt brand.
Co-branding details include the Carhartt logo label, which has been sewn into the tongue tabs and Converse’s signature round patch dressing the medial ankle, in addition to branding found on the insoles and license plate. Another noteworthy aspect is the left shoe features a “Converse Renew” marker as a nod to the collaboration’s innovative sustainability.
Final details such as the clean white laces, white rubber midsole, and outsole complete the overall design of the Carhartt WIP x Converse Renew Chuck 70. And what makes the collaborative Chuck 70 extra unique is that no two pairs are the same, and are entirely based on the condition in which the upcycled garments have been found.
Along with the Carhartt WIP x Converse Renew Chuck 70, Converse’s ongoing Renew program has diverted more than 108,000 textile items from landfills so you can be stylish and earth-friendly at the same time.
For those interested, the limited-edition Carhartt WIP x Converse Renew Chuck 70 is available now at select Converse retailers, Converse’s online store, and Carhartt WIP’s website.
