Renew by Converse Offer Sneakers with Uppers Made from Upcycled and Recycled Materials

Converse, a subsidiary of the footwear giant Nike, is answering the call for more environmentally conscious materials and practices.

It is an anthem that has been echoing throughout the fashion industry as consumers are more aware of the ramifications of fast fashion and are electing for earth-happy options through their buying decisions. Renew is Converse’s recently launched program that targets the growing environmentalist demographic.

As part of Renew, Converse introduced a polyester upper made from recycled plastic bottles. The eco-option will offer sneaker aficionados a chance to enjoy the same classic and fresh look without any accompanying guilt, all while supporting the movement to popularize sustainability in fashion.

Converse has also joined forces with vintage clothing retailer Beyond Retro to offer an upper made from upcycled denim.

“Every denim Chuck is different because each pair of jeans will be worn differently. Each will feel highly personal even at scale, we feel that’s a special moment for this program,” said Jessica L’abbe, Converse senior director.
