Looking for running shoes that are ethically and sustainably made with natural and recycled materials? You came to the right place. Here is a list of five eco-friendly running shoes that will surely get you up and off to the races.

1. Allbirds Tree Dasher

Known for creating footwear made from ethically-sourced wool, Allbirds recently released its very first running shoe called Tree Dasher. Described by Allbirds as its “most technical shoe yet”, Tree Dasher’s carbon footprint is 9.0 kg. The average sneaker’s carbon footprint is 12.5 kg, according to Allbirds.

Tree Dasher’s construction is made of renewable materials. The one-piece upper is made from FSC Certified eucalyptus trees, while ZQ Merino wool lines the heel counter.

Made with the world’s first carbon-negative green EVA, Tree Dasher’s dual-density SweetFoam midsole compliments a SweetFoam sole with natural rubber traction pads and a removable castor bean insole.

Designed to be comfortable, breathable and lightweight, Allbirds’ Tree Dasher has been extensively tested over a year-long period to ensure quality and the best performance.

2. Veja Condor

Since its inception in 2005, Veja has been offering footwear that is made without chemicals or polluting processes but instead with raw materials sourced from organic farming and ecological agriculture.

According to Veja, 99 percent of running shoes on today’s market are composed of plastics, 99 percent of which are derived from petroleum. “Our society’s dependence on plastic and oil is an ecological catastrophe,” said Veja.
As such, Veja spent four years of research and development to create Condor, a running shoe made of 53% natural-based and recycled materials.

Inspired by the structure of a South American bird bone, Condor features a biomimetic design that provides flexibility and a light step for optimal running.

3. adidas X Parley Primeblue Ultraboost 20

Given a five star by a verified customer who says it is “100% wife approved”, the Primeblue Ultraboost 20 is the result of a collaboration between adidas and Parley, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the oceans from pollution.

Consider this harrowing estimate. By 2050, it is said that the world’s oceans will have more plastic than fish. With this in mind, how can one use plastic without guilt? This is why adidas and Parley created Primeblue, a high-performance recycled material made from plastic waste found on beaches and shorelines.

All products made of Primeblue include a minimum of 40% recycled content.

4. Vivobarefoot Primus Lite Bio II

Featuring an inner sole made of recycled footwear, sawdust, and natural rubber with an outer sole made of 50% recycled footwear and natural rubber, the lining is organic cotton and the construction is all combined with water-based glue.
