Tech company Iron Ox has launched an autonomous hydroponic farm in an 8,000-square-foot facility in San Carlos, California.

Developing a 1,000-pound machine called Angus that can transport hydroponic containers and a robotic arm made for harvesting produce, Iron Ox utilizes their robots to grow and harvest romaine, butterhead, kale, basil, cilantro and chives in their indoor farm.

Said to be able to grow 30 times the yield of a traditional farm per acre of land and use 90 percent less water thanks to Iron Ox’s hydroponic growing system, co-founder Brandon Alexander and Jon Binney have stated that their goal and vision is to focus on “sustainable, scalable food production for a changing climate and an ever-growing population”.

To control, synchronize, and monitor the robot’s operations, Iron Ox has developed a software called The Brain. With the majority of the work automated, a human hand is only required for seeding, maintaining and processing.
