Grounded Foods

Founded in 2019, Grounded Foods is a Los Angeles-based vegan startup with a product list that consists of plant-based cheeses.

However, unlike other plant-based cheeses already on the market, Grounded Foods’ cheeses are made entirely out of non-GMO hemp seeds and “ugly” cauliflowers (otherwise known as the imperfect cauliflowers that would otherwise be thrown away, deemed unworthy to sell in grocery stores). Not only do they taste delicious, but they are completely nut-free, soy-free, gluten-free, and non-GMO, a rarity in the world of vegan cheese.

The operation, with Melbourne founder and CEO Veronica Fil at the helm, includes a Los Angeles office and a manufacturing facility an hour outside of the city.

The brand uses local, sustainable ingredients as much as possible. Take the cauliflower as an example. California is responsible for 90% of cauliflower grown in the United States, which is part of the reason why Fil decided to establish Grounded Foods in LA. Since its founding, they have made it their mission to partner with local suppliers and farmers in and around LA, to source imperfect cauliflowers that would otherwise be sent to a landfill.

Grounded Foods’ new lineup of offerings is set to launch in early 2021. They are starting to promote three new types of cheeses: Marinated Hemp Seed Goat Cheese with Garlic, Lemon, and Thyme, Hemp Seed Cream Cheese with Onion and Chives, and a Cheese-free Cheese Sauce. The three newest offerings will be their first direct-to-consumer products and will all be available both online on groundedfoods.com and in-store at select retail locations.
