Measuring just 215 sq ft (20 sq m), Takigawa is a sushi restaurant located in Fukuoka, Japan that provides an intimate dining experience.
Designed by studio CASE-REAL, the sushi restaurant occupies the site of a former dry cleaner that resides on an intersection corner.
Featuring a Ginkgo wood counter that is curved parallel to the facade and intersection corner for the maximization of preparation space and seating, the sushi chef takes the stage with a blank clayey wall behind.
For a minimalist and uncluttered environment, the kitchen is hidden behind the blank wall and other utensils are hidden beneath the curved counter.
“We aimed to create a clearly distinct atmosphere for the interior,” said CASE-REAL.
Rest assured, there is a small washroom tucked away.
The walls of the interior are clad in Japanese cypress and the exterior walls are finished with stucco to “quietly blend into the surroundings at night”.
The sushi restaurant’s Japanese name “多㐂川” is written on a small lamp and a Japanese noren curtain with an illustration of a fish welcomes guests.
