Known for their eco-friendly and carbon-neutral sneakers, San Francisco-based footwear brand Allbirds have expanded their range to include naturally made underwear.

Allbirds diversified its offering last year to include shoelaces and also a line of Trino socks. The trademarked material Trino combines the fibre of eucalyptus tree and responsibly sourced merino wool to create a soft, breathable and moisture-wicking fabric. It made sense for the brand to grow its basics range and use this naturally derived material to create a sustainable underwear line.

Allbirds co-founder Tim Brown said in a statement; “When it comes to underwear, comfort is king. But 99% of cotton is grown using harsh pesticides and virgin nylon is made from petroleum. I don’t know about you, but the thought of undies that are riddled with oil and chemicals makes us feel a little uncomfortable. So, as always, we looked to nature.”

The five-piece limited edition collection includes a Bralette, Brief, Shortie and Thong for women and a Boxer Brief for men, all crafted from super soft and breezy Trino. All pieces are available in a variety of soft neutral colours including wheat, raincloud, boulder, storm, nimbus, malibu and aloe. The range has also been Oeko Tex 100 certified, meaning it is completely free from harmful chemicals and safe for humans.

As per the brand’s policy to measure, reduce and offset; the carbon emissions of each product are stated on the website before they are balanced by sustainable practices. This method helps Allbirds stay transparent and keeps customers informed about the environmental impact of their purchases. The fashion industry needs more brands to be socially and ethically responsible, and these measures are what today’s conscious shopper expects. What’s not to love about a brand that is kind to humans and the planet?

Trino underwear is available now on Allbirds’s website with prices from $25-$47. Sizes range from XS to XXXL for women and from S to XXL for men.
