Amid the rising popularity of grocery delivery offered by giants such as Walmart, Uber, and Amazon, another player by the name of Zero is emerging. Although virtually the same in most aspects, what sets Zero apart from competitors is its plastic-free service.
Recently, Zero has raised a total of $11.8 million in seed funding led by Sway Ventures. Founded by Zuleyka Strasner back in 2019, the startup aims to offer sustainable shopping options to customers in an accessible and convenient manner.
“We started off as a membership business, designed for early adopters, which was a great foundation for us,” says Zuleyka. “Now, as we’re moving into the next growth chapter of the company, our focus remains on servicing our customers in the very best way possible.”
With the seed fund, Zero is planning to expand its services further to cities such as San Jose. Currently, Zero is only available in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and the East Bay. A fleet of electric vehicles is also excepted once the company has grown.
“We are proud to support Zero as they move into this exciting stage of the business,” adds Ken Denman, general partner at Sway Ventures. “We believe in the mission of this bold and nimble startup, that aims to reshape the grocery delivery market by ticking all three essential boxes for a successful delivery service model: sustainability, speed, and affordability.”
