Eco-friendly tech brand Pela creates a wide range of compostable accessories that both protect and glam your device.

The Canada-based brand was founded by Jeremy Lang after he witnessed the devastating impact plastic could have on our oceans whilst on a trip to Hawaii in 2010. After researching different types of bioplastics, Lang produced Flaxstic, a material that is generated from a biopolymer and flax straw fibres.

Pela was then created and with it came the arrival of the world’s first 100% compostable phone case. Their mission to “create a waste free future” may seem ambitious, but it is clear they are heading in the right direction. Details of their sustainability strategy reveal that when compared to conventional plastic smartphone cases, Pela cases have 25% less carbon emissions, 35% less water usage and 70% less waste production.

They recently released the world’s first compostable case for Apple AirPods Pro. The cases are made from plant-based materials and said to be durable enough against drops, scratches, and dents.

If tech accessories are not your thing, they have also launched the world’s first 100% biodegradable sunglasses. The full range offers full UVA/UVB protection so are simultaneously stylish while providing the necessary protection.

Pela is also a member of 1% for the Planet, which means that a portion of money from all purchases is donated to causes that help to protect our oceans. Yet another reason to embrace a brand like Pela.
