The Metropolitan Museum of Art has released 375,00 images of public-domain artworks for anyone to use under the license designation Creative Commons Zero, known as CC0, as part of a new Open Access Policy.

Available for anyone to “copy, modify, distribute, and perform the work, even for commercial purposes, all without asking permission”, the Met has now allowed high-res downloads and the use of artworks from the public domain directory.

Previously available to see, but with downloads restricted to non-commercial and academic use, the new open access policy would allow modern artists to freely contribute and expand upon the greatest artworks ever created by humankind.
