Contemporary fashion brand COS has collaborated with art collective Studio Swine to exhibit the New Spring installation in Shanghai alongside the launch of COS’s Chinese website.

Studio Swine (Super Wide Interdisciplinary New Explorers) originally exhibited the installation for COS during Milan’s Salone del Mobile, where it won the Most Engaging Exhibition award at Milan Design Week. It is now open to the public at the Changing Bell Tower in Shanghai from Oct. 20 to Oct. 28.

New Spring is about the universal, it’s a very simple, minimal work which means it can be interpreted in many ways,” said Studio Swine in a press release. “In Shanghai, New Spring takes on the character of the city, it becomes the willow tree in the Chinese garden. The bubbles are reminiscent of magnolia flowers, pearls, or small descending full moons.”

New Spring is a tree-like sculpture described by Studio Swine as the reference to the “ornate chandeliers of Italian palazzos and the architectural features of Milanese columns and arches.” Emitting mist filled bubbles from the tip of its branches, the bubbles survive contact with textured fabrics but burst and evaporate when touching skin.

“It’s an honor to continue our partnership with Studio Swine and humbling to collaborate with designers who embody our core values and timelessness, modernity, and tactility,” said COS Creative Director Karin Gustafsson.

COS’s online launch in China includes an online storefront on Alibaba’s Tmall – China’s largest online retail platform – and a standalone site, cosstores.cn.

Owned by the H&M group, COS was launched in 2007 to create high-quality and timeless designs inspired by art, technology, and architecture. COS currently has 255 stores across Europe, Asia, North America, the Middle East and Australia.
