Designed by Koichi Futatusmata and Yuki Onita of studio CASE-REAL, LICHT is a gallery that sells a curated collection of bespoke furniture and objects.
Located steps away from Naka Meguro in Tokyo, Japan, the gallery reside on the second floor of an old building.
With large windows illuminating the room with natural light, some of the windows are frosted and half-transparent curtains are used as a means of controlling the light.
Composed of 4 continuing zones, the design of the space is based on the pillars and beams.
“The first impression is that the central pillar or slanted window is irregular and interesting,” said Futatusmata. “There was a theme that we wanted to keep it simple from the beginning when we talked about renovation, so we thought about how to organize complex lines.”
“Lines are beams, walls, and pillars,” explained Futatusmata. “By organizing these relationships, you can feel the products that stand out without making you feel the existence of the building. The natural light poured from the window was wonderful, so I used it as it was.”
