With the fashion industry attributed to being the second largest polluter in the world after oil, Frank And Oak is a company committed to “taking environmentally conscious clothing to the next level”. From using recycled and organic materials such as wool, cotton and hemp to sustainably create beautiful and timeless garments, circularity is also emphasized as to avoid unnecessary waste in landfills.
With the saying “actions speak louder than words”, Frank And Oak has recycled denim destined for the landfill to create Circular Denim jeans.
“Circularity means that existing resources are kept in use for as long as possible and then recycled when they have fulfilled their purpose,” said Frank And Oak. “By minimizing waste and turning it into a resource for new production, we all move closer to a more organic and sustainable life cycle of consumption.”
To create Circular Denim jeans, worn-out denim is collected and sent to a fabric recycler to be shredded and broken down into a fibre with impurities removed. The fibres are then combined with virgin fibres for structural integrity and durability. Lastly, the fabric is spun and woven into a new pair of jeans.
“Getting our clothes from recycled processes is one easy step towards ethical fashion—without compromising our sense of style,” added Frank And Oak.
To celebrate the launch of Circular Denim, Frank And Oak hosted the Responsible Denim Lab event at the Eaton Centre in Toronto, Canada. The event featured a circular fashion future talk hosted by sustainable fashion expert Kelly Drennan, selfie changing room created by creative studio Kastor & Pollux, and an embroidery machine where the Circular Denim jeans can be personalized.
