Recently, wellness and lifestyle brand goop founded by actress Gwyneth Paltrow unveiled The Diapér, a new luxurious and disposable diaper made from jasmine and bergamot scented virgin alpaca wool with amber gemstones fitted. The price? A whopping $120 for a pack of 12.

In an Instagram post published by goop promoting The Diapér, many users left comments expressing their confusion and frustration. “This is not April 1 guys!” writes one Instagram user. “This can’t be real,” adds another. “This is a joke, right?” asks a user. “Doesn’t Goop know how expensive diapers are for Moms?” questions another.
As suspected, The Diapér is not real and was just a marketing stunt to raise awareness for the diaper tax. According to goop, diapers are taxed as a luxury item in 33 states. As such, the company says that roughly 1 in 3 moms struggle to afford the necessary item.
“If treating diapers like a luxury makes you mad, so should taxing them like a luxury,” says goop. “While eliminating the diaper tax is not a complete solution to diaper need, it could allow many families to pay for another month’s supply.”
Partnering with Baby2Baby, a nonprofit that provides diapers, formula, and other essentials to families in need, goop urges those who care to donate and spread awareness of this issue.
