Spanish fashion label Desigual recently launched Love the World, their first-ever sustainably-produced collection.
The brand’s all-new sustainable capsule collection features an array of clothing items, all made from organic, eco-friendly, and recycled fibres. In addition, denim pieces are made out of discarded denim waste.
The entire Love the World collection was designed locally in Barcelona and is said to be a nod to the beginnings of the Desigual brand.
Desigual claims that the name of the collection, Love the World, came from their own philosophy regarding the environment. However, according to the brand, Love the World isn’t just an inspiring mantra, but rather is a declaration of intent, which they will be taking tangible steps to support.
For example, the Love the World collection is part of the brand’s broader effort to have all Desigual collections be made up of 50% sustainable fibres by 2023, and 100% “more” sustainable cotton by 2025. Meanwhile, by the end of this year, Desigual has stated their intention to phase out all single-use plastic and ensure that any plastic used in the future is recycled and recyclable.
Another overarching goal they’ve set for themselves is to reduce their carbon footprint by 25% for 2025, and to become completely carbon neutral by 2050. Further, since 2018, Desigual has been publishing a public sustainability report on the progress of the company, and both in an effort to become more eco-friendly and in the spirit of transparency, they will continue to do so each year.
Desigual’s Love the World collection currently features a mix of activewear, loungewear, and denim. In the way of activewear, you’ll find everything from tie-dye leggings and a padded fleece hoodie. Meanwhile, loungewear includes the likes of recycled cotton sweatshirts and t-shirts. Finally, the majority of the collection is made up of eye-catching denim pieces in the brand’s patented patchwork style. However, this time, the pieces are made with either upcycled or recycled denim.
Denim vests, unisex jackets, and mini skirts make up the bulk of this section of the line, with several featuring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck embellishments that any Disney lover won’t be able to resist.
Coinciding with the launch of the Love the World capsule collection is Desigual’s decision to only use plastic-free and recyclable posters in their stores, and to halt the printing of their magazine in favour of a digital version. Desigual’s first-ever digital edition of their magazine can be accessed via a code printed on a card that comes with a seed and can be planted at one’s leisure.
Desigual’s Love the World collection is available now both online and in stores. Prices range from 69.95 euros to 299 euros.
