In honour of Earth Day 2020, American fashion brand Anne Klein recently released a line of solar-powered watches dubbed the Considered Collection.
This was part of an effort on behalf of the company to reduce the number of batteries that end up in landfills. Unlike regular batteries, solar-powered batteries never need to be replaced.
“Today, fashion emits more carbon pollution combined than that of international flights and maritime shipping. In an effort to reduce this environmental harm, we wanted to produce a more mindful collection that includes thoughtfully sourced materials. To dive into this endeavour, it seemed fitting to begin with our watch collection. For most this is an item worn daily, equal parts reliable and fashionable… Right from the start, we knew all styles need to be powered by a solar battery,” reads the company’s website.
The Considered Collection is centred on the following ideals: genuineness, thoughtfulness, cultivation, and community.
Beyond eco-friendly functionality of Anne Klein’s Considered Collection watches, sustainability was also front of mind when deciding which materials to use for the watchband. All straps in this collection are made out of either vegan leather derived from fruits and cork, or renewable plastics derived from sugar and natural fibres.
The environment was also considered when it comes to production. For example, a natural tanning process that is free from chrome, heavy metals, formaldehyde, pentachlorophenol (PCP), and other harmful chemicals was used to produce the vegan leather.
Anne Klein is known for its elegant jewellery, and this line is no exception. Pairing sustainability with style, each watch is more beautiful than the last. The watches come in a range of classic hues including silver, rose gold, black, yellow gold, navy blue, and cream, and many feature Swarovski crystal indices.
