A Coffee Cup Made from Desert Sand Has Been Created

In collaboration with The Foundry, a multi-disciplinary design firm called Tinkah has developed a material that combines Dubai’s sand with the characteristics of slip ceramics to create a coffee cup that is “inspired by every shifting dunes”.

The material developed by Tinkah is called Ramel, which translates to ‘sand’ in Arabic. Said to be able to “shift shape into functional and aesthetic products”, The Foundry has utilized Ramel by creating moulds inspired by traditional Bedouin coffee cups to create a cup called Ramel C01
