French architect Emmanuelle Moureaux, who has been based in Tokyo since 1996, has created a colourful installation as part of an ongoing series called 100 colors for Japanese masking tape brand mt.
Simply entitled 100 colors no.35 for mt, the installation celebrates mt’s 10th annual FACTORY TOUR that showcases masking tape made from traditional Japanese washi paper.
To create the installation for mt, Moureaux used 15 mm wide tape in 100 different shades of colour. In total, 6000 lines of long masking tape were used to complete the piece.
“Visitors can walk through a tunnel cut out of the installation, experiencing the 100 colors gradation and its overlapping effects. The colors and lines overlap and change depending on the viewing angle, creating a beautiful rainbow moire that creates various expressions,” says Moureaux.
“Walking through this immersive one hundred colors path, which was made up of a total of 28 km length masking tape, people forgot time and enjoyed colors with their entire body.”
