“This is awful… Creating plastic just to recycle it afterward is not zero waste, it shouldn’t have been created in the first place,” writes another Instagram user.
“I agree we love your work but this is greedy and unnecessary, I can’t be beautiful amazed like your other work, on a environmental aspect. This artwork is a flop,” exclaims a critic.
“I’m speaking as a fan of your work. But before recycling it, you did produce all this waste. Makes no sense to me,” reads another comment.
In response to the criticism, Cj Hendry writes “I build zero waste exhibitions, I am not going to continue to re-explain myself. Every single piece of this concept is getting recycled into functional furniture. I build the vision and recycle 100% of it afterwards.”
The Crown Series includes 100 bronze crowns in a leather hat box priced at $6,250.00 USD each. The highlight of the series is one large-scale drawing of a red crown for $94,900.00 USD that is said to be a “dedication to self-representation, inclusivity, and democratizing the art market.”
