adidas has partnered with environmental non-profit organization Parley for the Oceans to create a floating tennis court made from recycled plastic.

Previously, adidas and Parley for the Oceans collaborated to develop a recycled high-performance material called Primeblue that is made from marine plastic waste.

The recycled-plastic tennis court was launched into the Great Barrier Reef marine park in Australia, which is fitting because the Australian Open tennis tournament is currently underway.

adidas also used this opportunity to advertise a new colourful collection of tennis apparel made of recycled plastic.

“The new adidas tennis apparel collection, that will be worn by players during the Australian Open in Melbourne, has been inspired by the beauty of the Great Barrier Reef and consists of products from one of our sustainability innovators, Made with Parley Ocean Plastic,” says adidas.

“We have chosen to launch this collection in the heritage-protected Queensland marine park to raise awareness and positive discussion around how we can help end plastic waste and protect the Great Barrier Reef.”

According to the sporting company, the floating tennis court’s surface will be reused for a new court at a local school.
