A concept video demonstrating the wireless electric vehicle charging system alongside the Automated Valet Parking System (AVPS) has been unveiled by Hyundai and Kia.

Envisioning a future where drivers will be able to instruct their electric vehicles to autonomously park in a wireless charging station, Hyundai has stated that their systems will “offer a convenience to drivers who are faced with an overcrowding of both parking and charging locations”.

Using a smartphone app to instruct the Hyundai Le Fil Rouge concept car featured in the video to autonomously drive to a vacant wireless charging station, the electric vehicle once fully charged will relocate utilizing AVPS to allow other vehicles to use the charging station.

Drivers will also be able to summon the charged vehicles to their position by using the smartphone app.

“The overall process is performed by continuous communication between electric vehicle, parking facility, charging system and driver,” said Hyundai and Kia in a press release. “The parking facility sends location of empty parking spaces and charging stations, while the charging system updates the charging status of the vehicle in real-time.”

Considering to implement the technology alongside the launch of their level 4 autonomous vehicle in the year 2025, Hyundai, who is the parent company of Kia, has also announced their goal of launching fully autonomous vehicles by 2030.
