Direct-to-consumer subscription wine service Winc has launched a sustainable wine brand just in time for summer.
Dubbed The Wonderful Wine Co., all four wines in the collection are vegan, low carb, low sugar, paleo, keto, and pesticide-free. They also use organic grapes, which were grown and harvested using sustainable methods. The Wonderful Wine Co.’s model is “sustainable from grape to glass.”
“As health-conscious winemakers who care about the things we put into our bodies, we wanted to craft something that people could feel good about reaching for,” says Winc founder Brian Smith.
With each The Wonderful Wine Co. wine, consumers can rest easy knowing they’re sipping on clean, organic wine. According to Winc, The Wonderful Wine Co. is one of the very few organic wine brands on the market. In fact, they estimate that organic wine accounts for less than 4 percent of global wine consumption. That is what prompted Winc to create The Wonderful Wine Co. They source their grapes from organic vineyards wherever possible, which ensures the healthiest grapes. This allows Winc to create a delicious product without the use of chemical additives or sugars.
In addition, The Wonderful Wine Co. is a proudly vegan brand. If you’re wondering, “isn’t all wine vegan?”, the answer is unfortunately no. Although some wine is vegan, there are many on the market that are made with animal byproducts. During the winemaking process, products like gelatin, egg whites, and milk protein are commonly used as “fining ingredients” or ingredients to help offset the bitter taste of certain wines.
Further taking the guilt out of guilty pleasure, The Wonderful Wine Co. is eco-friendly from start to finish. The brand uses natural corks and lightweight glasses to bottle the wine. These bottles require 20 percent less energy and 12 percent less water to produce than the typical 750 mL wine bottle.
The Wonderful Wine Co. also utilizes eco-friendly production and shipping methods. For example, they bottle closer to the point of sale, which cuts CO2 emissions by 40 percent, and they use insulated blankets instead of refrigerated trucks to reduce emissions even further. Finally, as Winc is a delivery wine service, all bottles of The Wonderful Wine Co. wine are packaged and shipped in boxes. However, Winc always ships their products in recycled and recyclable cardboard boxes using minimal fillers on the inside.
Now that you know what The Wonderful Wine Co. is all about, it’s time to start shopping! Currently, the collection has four types of wine on offer: red, white, rosé, and orange.
The red Malbec hails from the iconic Lujån de Cuyo wine region of Argentina. It pairs perfectly with sweet and savoury foods. Meanwhile, The Wonderful Wine Co.’s white wine comes from the Languedoc region of France. It is a dry white with a hint of sweet, tropical pineapple, and it pairs with almost everything. Next is the rosé, also made in France. It is a bright and acidic wine with hints of strawberry, raspberry, and rose petal. Lastly, there is the orange, or the Malvasia Blanca, which is actually a rare type of white wine made in the style of red. It is filled with summery flavours like citrus, peach, and honeysuckle, and was grown in California.
Bottles are available in three packs, six packs, or 12 packs. Consumers can choose to purchase a pack of the same variety, or they can opt for The Wonderful Wine Co.’s Starter Pack, which includes a bottle of Malbec, white, and rosé, or The Orange Party Pack, consisting of the Malbec, the white, and their limited edition Malvasia Blanca orange wine.
