Global design company West Elm and American fashion brand EILEEN FISHER have teamed up to launch a limited-edition line of decor and furniture items.
The EILEEN FISHER x West Elm collection, which includes a range of pillows and a swivel chair, is noteworthy because each piece is made of upcycled denim.
Giving old garments a second life beyond the closet, this unique collection was made possible through EILEEN FISHER’s Renew program. Since launching their Renew take-back program in 2010, the brand has transformed over 1.4 million clothing items.
Further, as part of the brand’s Waste No More program, EILEEN FISHER seeks to ensure that not one piece of clothing ends up in a landfill, and so they resell the items in good enough condition and find an imaginative way of repurposing those that don’t. This time around, the imaginative way of upcycling these leftover denim pieces was to collaborate with West Elm and create a collection of decorative accent pillows and chic furniture.
To create the fabric used for each piece, EILEEN FISHER had to deconstruct used denim garments donated by customers through the brand’s in-house take-back program. Upon being donated, the clothing items that ended up comprising the collection were then washed, repaired, and hand-crafted into beautiful, intricate patterns, using environmentally-friendly methods.
More specifically, the EILEEN FISHER team worked to deconstruct the pre-loved garments they received and stitch them back together using a process called felting. Thus, each piece in the EILEEN FISHER x West Elm collection is truly one-of-a-kind, and as each one is made out of 100 percent recycled denim, they also have sustainability at their core.
The collection is made up of six accent pillows in various shapes and sizes, two pillow sets, and one chair. Pillows range between $159 and $179 USD, while the EILEEN FISHER Swivel Chair will set you back $1,999 USD. What we love most about each piece is that no two are the same.
