As part of a collaborative project, designer Naoto Fukasawa and Japanese Washi paper-maker ONAO have developed a hard-to-tear paper called Naoron for use in a variety of everyday products.

In total, there are two variations of Naoron. Soft Naoron is made from wood pulp and polyolefin and hard Naoron is made from recycled polyester fibres from plastic bottles. Both are created using the washi-suki paper manufacturing method.

Naoron is lightweight, water-resistant, tear-proof, and able to hold up to 22 pounds (10kg).

Utilizing Naoron for a product collection comprised of hats, bags, cases, and more, the collection is called SIWA which translates to the word crinkle in Japanese.
