In an effort to minimize waste and encourage recycling at a time of year when consumer purchases are at their highest, Universal Standard has announced that they are hosting a denim recycling program called Denim Drive

Kicked off the night before Cyber Monday, November 29, and running until December 6, Universal Standard’s Denim Drive invites people to buy a new pair of jeans that costs just $25 USD (valued at $90 USD) and in return, send an old pair back for recycling.

How the Denim Drive precisely works is as follows: First, a pair of Universal Standard jeans are purchased online. When the customer receives and opens the package containing their jeans that were shipped by mail, they will find a pre-labelled shipping bag for them to send old pair of jeans to Cotton’s Blue Jeans Go Green program.

From there, Cotton will give your old denim a completely new life, transforming it into natural cotton fibre insulation, which is then used for housing projects across the United States. To date, Cotton’s Blue Jeans Go Green program has diverted over 1,750 tons of denim from landfills and recycled over 3.5 million pieces of denim.
