Created by physics and design grads Anna and Alana of Momentix, motionKit is a simple yet fun toy that is described as being able to let you turn anything into a chain reaction machine.

According to Momentix, the inspiration behind motionKit comes from the desire to diversity STEM and overall, make it more fun to learn.

“STEM is about a lot more than coding and memorizing equations,” explains Momentix. “As artificial intelligence and tech tools advance rapidly in the 21st century, our uniquely human skills are more important than ever. It’s time for STEM toys to do more. They need to teach STEM and teach 21st century skills–like creativity, resilience, and collaboration.”

“These skills not only make for better scientists, software engineers, and researchers, but they also make for more adaptable, capable, and literate problem-solvers in the 21st century! They’re also proven to help close the participation gap in STEM,” claims Momentix.

“Most toys for adults–puzzles, Catan, etc. aren’t so fun for kids, or they eat up hours of time,” says Momentix. “We wanted to give kids and adults the chance to practice curious, joyful, improvisational problem solving together, so we designed the motionKit from scratch to have all the pieces, shapes, and functionality that you need to build chain reactions as a family.”

Included in the motionKit are 22 pieces with 1000 card combinations. With the environment in mind, the 22 pieces are made from sustainably sourced wood and wood manufacturing waste instead of plastic. In addition, the wooden pieces are produced in a factory that recycles waste material to make composite wooden toys.
