Delivering on a promise Tesla CEO Elon Musk had made at the 2019 annual shareholder’s meeting, Tesla has announced that the Model 3’s interior is now 100% leather-free.
Although synthetic-leather upholstery is already the standard for the Model 3’s interior, the steering wheel was still made from leather.
“There are some challenges when heating non-leather material and also how well it wears over time,” said Musk.
With customers now able to purchase the Model 3 with non-leather steering wheels, those who already own a Model 3 will also be able to retrofit their steering wheel.
