Porsche’s Very First All-Electric Sports Car Unveiled

At the world premiere held simultaneously in North America, China and Europe, Porsche has unveiled its very first all-electric sports car called Taycan.

“The Taycan links our heritage to the future. It carries forward the success story of our brand – a brand that has fascinated and thrilled people the world over for more than 70 years,” said Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG.

“We promised a true Porsche for the age of electromobility – a fascinating sports car that not only excites in terms of its technology and driving dynamics, but also sparks a passion in people all over the world, just like its legendary predecessors have done. Now we are delivering on this promise,” said Michael Steiner, Member of the Executive Board of Porsche AG – Research and Development.

The event locations where the Taycan was unveiled represents the key sales markets for the all-electric sports car. With the North America event held at Niagara Falls, the China event held at a wind farm on Pingtan Island and the Europe event held at a solar farm in Neuhardenberg, each of the event locations also represents a form of sustainable energy.

There are two models part of the Taycan series called Turbo and Turbo S. Priced at 152,136 euros, the Turbo is capable of accelerating zero to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds while the Turbo priced at 185,456 euros is capable of accelerating zero to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds. Both models have a top speed of 260 km/h.

Turbo is able to generate up to 500 kW (680 PS) of overboost power while Turbo S’s overboost power is 560 kW (761 PS).

With a single charge, Turbo’s max range is 450 kilometres and the Turbo S’ max range is 412 kilometres.

Both models feautre a system voltage of 800 volts. In ideal conditions, the battery can be recharged 80 percent in 22.5 minutes. Using direct current (DC) from the high-power charging network, a range of roughly 100 kilometres can be recharged in five minutes. The max charging power is 270 kW and the overall capacity of the Performance Battery Plus is 93.4 kWh. Drivers will also be able to charge their Taycan at home with up to eleven kW of alternating current (AC).
