At an event held in Hawthorne, California, Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk unveiled an all-electric pickup truck unlike any other called Cybertruck.
Featuring an unconventional design, the Cybertruck’s exterior is angular and eyecatching. With an exposed monochrome exoskeleton made from Cold-Rolled stainless-steel alloy, the structural skin is said to be bulletproof against a nine-millimetre calibre shot from handguns.
Although touted as being “ultra-strong”, the vehicle’s armoured glass with polymer-layered composite had shattered when a metal ball was thrown at it as part of a demonstration.
“It didn’t go through, that’s the plus side,” jokingly remarked Musk.
With a thin headlight that stretches the entire front, the rear light also stretches the entire width of the vehicle.
Despite is refined appearance, the Cybertruck is capable of operating offroad.
With adjustable air suspension, Cybertruck drivers will be able to raise and lower suspensions by up to 10 cm (four in).
In addition to its lockable bed, storage comes in the form of a frunk and under-bed.
The Cybertruck is available with either a single, dual or trio motor. With a single motor, the Cybertruck is capable of accelerating 0-96 km/h (0-60 mph) in 6.5 seconds while a trio motor will enable an acceleration of 0-96 km/h in 2.9 seconds.
Rated with a 3,500 lbs (1587 kg) payload capacity, its towing capability with a single motor is 7500 lbs (3401 kg) while the trio motor is roughly 14,000 lbs (6350 kg).
The range of Cybertruck also varies depending on the number of motors. With a single motor, the max range is 402 km (250 mi). The trio motor’s max range is 800 km (500 mi).
The Cybertruck can seat a total of six. With generous space for comfort, the sleek and stylish interior is fitted with a 17 inch touchscreen with a new customized user interface.
