Described by Elon Musk as “the best chip in the world”, Tesla at Autonomy Investor Day has unveiled the Full Self Driving (FSD) Chip.
With the FSD Chip alongside 8 vision cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors and radar, Tesla vehicles will now have the hardware necessary for full self-driving capabilities.
Tesla has been installing the FSD Chip in all of its new Model S and X vehicles since March and has recently begun installation for the new Model 3 vehicles.
Tesla owners who’ve paid for the Full Self Driving package will also be able to retrofit their vehicles with the FSD Chip.
The FSD Chip has been explained in detail by Musk, VP of Engineering Stuart Bowers, VP of Hardware Engineering Pete Bannon, and Sr. Director of AI Andrej Karpathy at the Autonomy Investor Day event.
