Syrene is the latest natural skincare brand looking to redefine beauty. However, unlike their competitors, they’re going about it a little differently.
The New Zealand-based skincare brand is pioneering an entire beauty movement. Like most eco-friendly brands, they have taken an all-natural, vegan, ethical approach. What sets Syrene apart is its focus on ocean conservation. More specifically, the Pacific Ocean.
“The purity and serenity of the Pacific Ocean inspires the Syrene woman’s sense of self-reliance and self-worth,” reads Syrene’s website. “The Syrene woman has a strong sense of self, accepting her own unique beauty while living a tranquil lifestyle. With each product being made locally in New Zealand, Syrene is dedicated to creating nutrient-rich skincare, combining science and natural ingredients that feed the skin.”
Syrene was established just four years ago in 2016. It is led by a team of women who understand skincare. Thus, it’s no wonder the brand has grown exponentially since its inception.
All of their products use ingredients found in the sea, particularly those known for having gentle and restorative properties. Take, for example, Syrene’s Aquagel Oil to Foam Cleanser. This cleanser contains seaweed extracts in the form of Ephemer and Tasmanian Kelp. Meanwhile, their Aqua Restore Eye Essence and Aqua Power Masque both contain more seaweed extracts, as well as marine collagen.
Syrene’s connection to the water doesn’t stop with their ingredients though. In an effort to reduce the amount of waste that gets thrown into the ocean each year, Syrene has pledged to create all of its product packagings out of recycled ocean waste. They collect plastic from oceans, beaches, and rivers and then recycle it in order for it to be used as packaging.
This focus on the ocean, both in using ingredients found naturally in the ocean and in cleaning up the ocean by using ocean waste to create recycled packaging, has led many to call Syrene the leader of the blue beauty movement. In contrast to the green beauty movement, which focuses on sustainably sourced ingredients from the land, Syrene sets its sights on the sea.
