Beloved Japanese animation and cultural powerhouse Studio Ghibli led by Hayao Miyazaki has just announced that their long-awaited theme park will finally open its doors on November 1st, 2022.
The theme park, simply called Ghibli Park, is located at the edge of Nagoya city. Via a bullet train, it will take roughly an hour and a half from Tokyo to Nagoya.
When opened, visitors will be able to enjoy five themed areas based on the films My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke and Howl’s Moving Castle.
Unlike Disney or Universal Studios, Ghibli Park will not have any large rollercoasters. Instead, small-scale rides and nature trails will be featured.
