Sol Cups is a UK-based brand doing their bit to save the planet. Founded by Rebecca Veksler, they sell eco-friendly coffee cups and bottles made from hand-blown glass.
Their products offer an alternative to disposable paper cups as well as reusable plastics, which are less sustainable than glass.
According to the World Wildlife Fund, over 8 million tons of plastic are dumped into the ocean every year. While takeaway coffee cups are primarily made of paper, the polyethylene lining which allows them to hold liquid makes them difficult to recycle.
As a result, less than one percent of coffee cups are recycled, and this poses a significant risk to the environment. Reusable plastic options are available, but SoL Cups promote a more environmentally friendly solution.
Through the use of hand-blown glass, SoL Cups argue that they “showcase the perfect synergy of quality, sustainability, style and taste.” They claim that this choice benefits both the environment and the function of their product. The plastic-free design means that the product does not absorb residual tastes or odours from its contents, allowing for the purity of taste. Furthermore, consumers do not need to worry about chemicals impacting their health.
SoL Cups offer a wide range of styles, to suit all consumers. The bottles carry 850ml, while the cups are available in three different sizes – from 8oz to 16oz. All of these products come with a food-grade silicone sleeve, and other accessories, such as a gift box, hemp pouch or cleaning brush, which can be viewed on their website.
Moreover, SoL Cups places an emphasis on protecting the environment outside of their products. They recognize that not all local councils allow for silicone recycling, and so work with the Zero Waste Box system of TerraCycle to offer a recycling service. SoL Cups is also partnered with the charity ReForest Now to donate £1 from every product sale to plant trees. This allows them to support endangered species and combat carbon emissions.
SoL Cups combine style with sustainability so that consumers do not lose out when choosing to help the planet. Their range of products offers an innovative solution to the problems of over-consumption and throwaway culture.
