Known for its stylish and sustainable vegan sneakers, Barcelona-based footwear brand SAYE has recently debuted an all-new take on its Modelo ’89 silhouette.

Created in partnership with Desserto Mexico, the duo has replaced the use of traditional leather with cactus vegan napa made from the Nopal cactus. The innovative material is used specifically to construct the lines and heels of the updated Modelo ’89, while 100% bamboo and certified organic cotton are used to create the inner lining and shoelaces.

Not only is the cactus a more eco-friendly option when compared to leather, but the material is also distinguished by its softness to touch and performance.

Additionally, the removable insole is made from recycled PU foam sourced from automotive leftovers and the outsole is made from a mix of natural and synthetic rubber. Lastly, the reinforcements are thanks to recycled thermoplastic and woodchips.

In terms of colour palette, the Modelo ’89 “Vegan Cactus” sticks with a demure cream upper, while both the line and heel overlay, along with the tongue tab, are aptly dressed in a cactus green hue. Down below, a rubber-coloured midsole helps to round out the final design cues of this innovative sneaker offering.
