PANGAIA, a clothing brand at the fore of the sustainable fashion movement, recently launched another eco-friendly line.

Dubbed Botanicals 2.0, the new collection marks the expansion of PANGAIA’s best-selling Botanical Dyes collection.

Like the original Botanical Dyes collection, all items are made using plant-based dyes and environmentally-friendly dying techniques. Botanicals 2.0 is also made of tracksuits (hoodies and track pants) and t-shirts. Each item is available in five new, bright, natural colours: Rubia Mauve, Rubia Red, Nimbus Pink, Nimbus Purple, and Leafy Green.

Sustainability and design have always been a priority for PANGAIA, which refers to itself as “a materials science company on a mission to save the environment.”

“We develop products made of post-consumer recycled materials and plastic bottles. It does not just look good, but most importantly feels good too,” reads PANGAIA’s website. Thus, the brand has always been dedicated to creating items that use as many sustainable and recyclable elements as possible, and this new line is no exception.

In fact, it is their sustainable materials mission that inspired the use of natural dyes in both their Botanical Dyes and now their Botanicals 2.0 collection. Each item in the new collection uses sustainably sourced, natural dye from wood, plants, fruits, and vegetables.

“Botanical Dyes extracted from nature are much safer for the environment, as they reduce the amount of harsh chemicals and colorants that would otherwise enter into the planet’s water streams. These dyes can help transform the way we use colorants in everyday products and encourage the shift towards a more responsible system of production and consumption,” reads the brand’s website.

Each colour created in the Botanicals 2.0 edit is sustainably derived, non-toxic, biodegradable, and renewable. They also used a water dyeing method that required minimal water, which in addition to saving a precious resource, ensured that the wastewater produced was also non-toxic.

The brand has been using plant-based dyes since its inception, always pulling from creative, natural sources. In the past, dyes have been produced using sakura blossoms, terracotta, and mint. For the Botanicals 2.0 collection, dyes were created out of everything from the Indian Madder plant root (otherwise known as Rubia cordifolia) for the Rubia Mauve and Rubia Red hues to Kerria Lacca for the Nimbus Pink and Nimbus Purple hues. Meanwhile, the Leafy Green dye was derived from the leaves of a mulberry tree.

In addition to the dyes, all hoodies and track pants in the collection are made out of a recycled and organic cotton mix. Thus, the cotton used to produce these items were either recycled or grown without the use of pesticides and chemicals that are typically used in the production of cotton and which harm the soil and water. The t-shirts were made out of a combination of saltwater seaweed fibre and organic cotton.

Finally, as with all PANGAIA collections, the Botanicals 2.0 is gender-free, with styles suitable for all people and body types.
