Japanese electronics corporation Panasonic in collaboration with studio LAYER has designed five concept products that embody the “intersection between home, wellbeing and technology”.

The product collection titled Balance of Being explores how product engagements can be more meaningful.

“All products react and deliver based on the rich living knowledge of you and your family, building a thorough and safe understanding of needs to deliver incredibly personal outputs that brings balance to being,” said LAYER

“Balance of Being aims to close this gap between technology and our lifestyles, focusing more on human interaction, comfort, enhancing our lifestyles, and providing truly meaningful experiences with technology allowing us to bond with one another instead of our devices,” said Rowan Williams, creative lead of Panasonic Design’s London team.

The Balance of Being collection is composed of WAVE, SHOT, TONE, GROW and LIFT.

Intended to be used for relieving stress, WAVE is a smart massaging device that maps and evaluates the level of tension in order to determine the ideal length of time, method and intensity of the experience.

SHOT is a device that uses camera sensing with AI to visually analyze skin conditions. A nutritious fruit and vegetable drink is then made and dispenced.

Said to be fashion-lead, TONE is a product made to sit on a person’s neck. Examining the wearer’s skin, a self-care regime is devised and by using steam and LED light treatments, the health of skin and complexion is improved.

Similar to TONE in regards to design and function, GROW examines hair conditions and structure for treatment and by using LED light treatment, a person’s hair and hair follicles are promoted for healthy growth.

For the foodies, LIFT is a smart cooking and food maturing appliance that utilizes heat and pressure technology alongside sensors to “lift food to its most optimal nutritional state”.

“We are curious in how we engage with products and the knowledge that they can build of us and our families,” said Takehiro Ikeda, creative director of Panasonic Design. “How do we intersect our aspirations of a more natural world with experiences that are technologically enabled?”

“This creates many exciting questions for Panasonic; opening opportunities for new paradigms of products and experiences that allow us to lead our lives in more meaningful ways that brings balance,” added Takehiro.
