Global fashion brand & Other Stories is known for its on-trend women’s clothing and accessories.
Recently, they decided to enter the sustainable fashion game with the launch of an environmentally-friendly capsule collection made entirely out of eco-conscious materials.
This capsule collection marks the Scandinavian-based brand’s first foray into sustainable fashion. & Other Stories has ateliers in Stockholm, Paris, and Los Angeles, and is part of the H&M Group.
The capsule collection consists of mostly dresses and tops, each of which is made out of at least one sustainable material, such as Tencel, Lyocell, EcoVero, or organic cotton. There are also three pairs of footwear that compose the collection.
Although & Other Stories’ specialty has always been producing trend-setting pieces, the items in their collection are meant to last. They are described as both timeless and durable, with the intention being that the consumer will keep them far beyond the typical fashion cycle.
“Our collective mindset is to explore and question the design process along the way to make sure we always go for the most sustainable option possible. We see these garments being worn in nature, in the warm sun, and we wanted to create a capsule that honors the nature that inspired it,” shares & Other Stories designer Caity Knox.
The summer collection is true to & Other Stories’ brand aesthetic. It is made up of bohemian, prairie-inspired pieces that are a nod to the laid back vibe of Northeast Los Angeles. Speaking of Los Angeles, each of the pieces in this collection was designed in the brand’s LA atelier.
Those shopping the collection will find puff sleeve mini dresses, wrap blouses, ruffled maxi dresses covered in boho floral prints, and basic tees with scalloped detailing. In line with the typical hues for spring and summer, the collection mostly comprises items that are part of the pastel rainbow (sky blue, mint green, lavender, blush pink, and more).
According to Knox, this eco-friendly summer capsule collection is just the beginning of & Other Stories’ sustainability journey. The brand has pledged to use only recycled or sustainable materials in its designs by 2030. This is in line with their parent company, H&M, who launched the H&M Conscious Collection, which uses innovative eco-friendly materials like VEGEA and Piñatex.
