Coastal Citizen

Eva Gutowski, the influencer behind @mylifeaseva (which has racked up 7.5 million followers and counting) has officially launched a beauty company.

Called Coastal Citizen, the vegan beauty brand, which was developed in partnership with Follow Beauty and is certified as “clean” according to European Union standards, was born out of Gutowski’s personal skincare journey. According to Coastal Citizen’s website, Gutowski struggled with her skin for several years, feeling constantly let down by harsh products that left her oily, acne-prone skin dry and irritated. This led her to start developing her own line of minimalist and clean skincare products.

A gentle, holistic approach to skincare was what Gutowski felt was lacking in the beauty industry, and so she set out to create an environmentally aware brand that used uncomplicated, multifunction, and transparent ingredients. And that’s exactly what she’s done with Coastal Citizen.

Launched on September 2 via its own website, Coastal Citizen consists of just two products to start: Morning Water, a no-rinse gentle cleanser, and Bamboo Terry Towels, three extra-large premium reusable rounds.

All Coastal Citizen products are ocean-friendly, vegan, and cruelty-free. Further, they contain naturally scientific, healing formulas for a variety of skin goals. Ingredient lists consist of natural botanicals and active ingredients that are all 100% vegan and most importantly, effective. Such ingredients include oat milk, basil essential water, chamomile essential water, betaine, and niacinamide (a form of vitamin B3).

Further, it was a top priority for Gutowski that Coastal Citizen not only be good for one’s skin but also for the planet. Thus, the clean beauty brand features natural ingredients, sustainable and recyclable packaging, and the option for all online orders to be carbon neutral.

Packaging for Coastal Citizen consists of Forest Stewardship Council-certified paper cartons printed with sustainable soy ink and recyclable glass bottles with PE orifice reducers and PP caps. Coastal Citizen’s website also provides specific instructions on how to recycle each type of packaging.

Regarding the carbon-neutral orders, Coastal Citizen calculates the carbon emissions for all orders and then gives consumers the opportunity to offset them by contributing to their carbon removal partner of choice, Running Tide. Dedicated to developing technologies that harness the power of the ocean to create a climate positive future, Running Tide is a global organization that uses kelp and oceans that cover over 71% of the Earth’s surface to absorb carbon, thus resulting in negative emissions.
