Spanish retailer Mango recently announced its intention to launch a new sustainable fashion brand called Alter Made.

Alter Made is currently set to be released online in select European countries later this fall and will be an independent brand under Mango.

At the heart of Alter Made is conscious consumption and mindful well-being, which is why Mango says the brand will implement a variety of sustainable and ethical initiatives that further showcase its commitment to the planet.

Mango asserts that the idea for Alter Made was born out of a rise in consumer demand for responsible consumption.

The Spanish company has described Alter Made’s clothing as being durable, timeless, and high-quality, made with sustainable characteristics.

Some of these “sustainable characteristics” include utilizing a short-run production strategy to minimize waste and surplus and producing all garments locally in Europe and Turkey. Suppliers will also be selected based on both their expertise and traceability, while materials will be chosen according to their environmental and quality certifications.

“For us, this path that we are now beginning is an exciting challenge,” says Alejandra Mur, who will head Alter Made. “In society, there is a growing demand for collections that help to consume fashion responsibly and that is our main objective. Create quality garments, very careful, made in proximity and that have a long life.”

“To achieve this, it is important to focus on all the details of the garments, as well as on the partners with whom we are going to work,” adds Mur. “We are going to produce where they know how to make each product best, the origin of each garment will be marked by mastery.”
