KakaoTalk’s Adorable IoT Home Appliances Designed by nendo

For Korean messaging app KakaoTalk, Japanese studio nendo has designed seven IoT home appliances.

With over 100 million downloads on the Google Play Store, KakaoTalk is the leading messaging app in South Korea.

The home appliance collection composed of a humidifier, lamp, alarm clock, air cleaner, sensor, scale and thermometer connects digital with analouge and creates a “synergetic effect between the two”.

Symbolizing “the desire to be light-weight”, the scale takes the shape of a cloud.

The icon of the humidifier is said to be a vapour.

The bright yellow alarm clock features a small bird that chirps.

The thermonitor is presented as a drop of water.

nendo says that the thermometer is “expressed through perspiration produced from getting a fever”.

The sensor takes the form of a periscope.

Rather simplistic, nendo describes the lamp as having a ray of light.

The air cleaner features a flower that sways in the wind.

“The seven products were all given a simple and analogue white bowl as the base and a silicon icon that is associated with and which symbolizes the different functions,” explained nendo.

The playful and colourful designs were inspried by KakaoTalk’s original characters called Kakao Friends.
