American apparel brand J.Crew recently announced the launch of their new corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability initiative entitled Re-imagined by J.Crew.
Through the initiative, J.Crew has set a wide range of goals for themselves relating to sustainability and CSR. The goals involve all aspects of the company, from their products and supply chain to their third-party partnerships.
Some of the broader efforts J.Crew will be dedicating themselves to include supporting factory workers, increasing circularity in their supply chain, reducing the brand’s carbon footprint, and providing opportunities for employees to give back to their communities.
Specific goals set by J.Crew range from Factories, Re-imagined, the aim of which is for 90% of all J.Crew cashmere and chino collections to be manufactured in Fair Trade certified facilities by 2025, to Fabrics, Re-imagined, where the company aims to make 100% of their key fibres sustainably sourced by 2025. In regards to the latter, J.Crew hopes to ramp up the use of sustainable materials, including re-imagined wool, re-imagined silk, recycled polyester, recycled nylon, Repreve, ECONYL, Tencel Lyocell, Tencel Modal, and organic cotton. The brand has also committed to using The Good Cashmere Standard certified cashmere for all cashmere collections from spring 2021 onward.
Three other goals, all part of Operations Re-imagined, involve 100% of the plastic and paper used in J.Crew’s packaging to be sustainably sourced by 2025, the complete elimination of virgin plastic from all packaging, and becoming 100% carbon neutral by 2030.
