At an annual general meeting, Pablo Isla, the CEO of multinational clothing company Inditex with brands Zara, Pull&Bear, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Oysho, Zara Home, Stradivarius and Uterqüe, has announced that by 2025, 100 percent of the cotton, linen and polyester used by the eight brands will be organic, sustainable or recycled.

Inditex has also announced that the viscose used will be 100% sustainable by 2023. According to Good On You, viscose is the third most commonly used textile fibre in the world.

Cotton, linen, polyester and viscose constitute 90 percent of raw materials used by Inditex.

“The culture of diversity, innovation and creativity that is shared by the entire Inditex team is driving the forward-looking values of sustainability and innovation,” said Isla.

“Sustainability is a never-ending task in which everyone here at Inditex is involved and in which we are successfully engaging all of our suppliers”, added Isla.

Highlighting sustainability as the forefront of importance, Inditex has also pledged to eliminate all plastic bags by 2020. The brands Zara, Zara Home, Massimo Dutti and Uterqüe have already achieved the no plastic bag policy.

Additionally, single-use plastics from customer sales will be fully eliminated and 100 percent of waste generated at the head offices, logistics platforms and stores will be recycled or reused by 2023.
