Up-and-coming fashion label House of AAMA, the brainchild of mother-and-daughter design masterminds and founders Rebecca Henry and Akua Shabaka, is honouring women of colour with its “Nude” collection.
Known for designing regal and historically influenced garments, all while celebrating Black culture and folklore, House of AAMA’s latest “Nude” range caters to the “various skin tones that exist within Blackness.”
House of AAMA’s “Nude” collection comprises delicate bra-like halter tops, wrap skirts, airy blouses, shirts, and headscarves, each injected with historical and archival references. The timeless items are crafted from eco-friendly, breathable textiles and materials (such as 100% organic cotton) and arrive in nude shades that pay homage to the varied skin tones of the House of AAMA founders’ ancestors located down in the Southern United States and the Caribbean.
As an added push towards its sustainability efforts, each piece in House of AAMA’s “Nude” collection, as well as past seasonal offerings, are made to order in Los Angeles and produced in limited quantities to minimize the label’s carbon footprint.
House of AAMA’s “Nude” collection will arrive exclusively via the label’s website on January 28.
