With the goal of finding use and value for marble fragments, South Korea-based design studio FICT has combined what would otherwise be considered as industrial marble waste with resin to create the Fragment series.
“There is no marble produced in Korea, all of it is imported from abroad so the pieces damaged during the shipping process and the leftover marble fragments lose their value because the pieces are too small to be used, despite the high cost of the material,” explained FICT.
“In order to solve this problem, we decided to rethink the way we use marble fragments,” said FICT.
Comprised of a stool, chair, and side table, the series is created by placing marble fragment into rectangular moulds before pouring an orange-brown crystal resin. Once hardened, the pieces are attached using adhesive glue.
