Created by furniture manufacturer Emeco in collaboration with English product and furniture designer Jasper Morrison, 1 Inch All Aluminum is a chair and stool collection made from 80% recycled aluminum.

By using recycled aluminum, the energy density is reduced up to 17 times when compared to virgin aluminum. The aluminum seating collection can also be 100% recycled.

Featuring weatherproof, lightweight, durable, non-corrosive, non-magnetic and non-bacterial properties, the collection is designed to forever remain a classic.

The stool is available in three varying heights. The chair is available with or without an armrest. Both chair models can be stacked up to six.

“When I saw the 2006 Super Normal Exhibition at Axis Gallery in Tokyo that Jasper curated, I understood his design philosophy and began to see that Jasper’s design sensibility fit the Emeco values of timeless simplicity,” said Gregg Buchbinder, CEO of Emeco. “As we worked together to create the 1 Inch and Alfi Collections, Jasper’s rigorous attention to every detail including materials, engineering, strength, comfort, finish, and color was astounding.”

“I’m more and more interested in working towards designs which take part in everyday life as naturally as possible,” said Morrison. “The 1” chair, though far from spectacular, is intended to be an updated Emeco solution to a wide variety of situations where something strong and less flashy is required.”

The collection is handmade in the USA with Emeco’s unique 77-step process. The process includes forming, welding, heat-treating and finishing.

“The design of the chair seemed basic enough and we were not expecting much trouble in developing it, but we underestimated the complication of bending square aluminium tube in more than one plane simultaneously,” explained Morrison. “It took Emeco several months of experimentation and it took us uncountable revisions to the drawing before we found the way to do it. It’s probably one of the most complicated chairs I’ve designed though it doesn’t look it.”
