TikTok is known for introducing trends for people to hop on, and it was only a matter of time until eco-friendly products began to gain traction.

Here are some of our favourite ones:

1. Eco Plastic Bricks: Plastic bottles can be stuffed with non-recyclable trash until full and compressed enough to be turned into bricks. These bricks can then be used to build benches, buildings, etc.

2. Eco-Friendly Fertiliser from Bananas: All this easy hack requires is that you bake your banana peel instead of throwing it out (bonus: it makes your kitchen smell really good). Once baked, slip it into a plastic bag and crush/blend it until it looks powdery. This potassium and phosphorus-rich powder make for a perfect fertilizer for your plants.

3. Making your own oat milk: Another way to reduce your carbon footprint is by making your own oat milk, as @madky1234 on Tiktok teaches us. All you need to do?

Blend oats, honey, and water together (and a dash of vanilla essence for that extra taste)

4. Regrow your lettuce: People aren’t kidding when they say nothing’s impossible now. Regrowing your lettuce isn’t as complicated as it sounds. On the contrary, it’s pretty straightforward.

 Steps:

  1. Cut the head of the lettuce
  2. Place the end of the head in a glass/jar of water
  3. Place in sunlight and wait till it grows. That’s it!

5. Make your own deodorant: You can make your very own personalized all-natural deodorant, and this is how:

      Steps

  1. 2 tablespoons of shea butter
  2. 1 teaspoon of coconut oil
  3. Melt, and add 3 tablespoons of arrowroot powder/ cornstarch
  4. Half a teaspoon of baking soda
  5. Mix well
  6. Add 15 drops of your favorite essential oil
  7. Mix well, and pour into a tin (about 50 grams)
  8. Put in your freezer for an hour
  9. You’re done!
