Tenere

There’s a new eco-friendly activewear brand on the market and it goes by the name of Tenere.

The brand’s inaugural collection consists of leggings and shorts, all of which are made with materials such as recycled PET, recycled polyester, recycled nylon and recycled elastane. The products feature four-way stretch, UPF protection, and anti-odour technology.

With a holistic approach to fashion, their journey comprises four elements: environmental consciousness, ethical labour, social advancement, and principled corporate governance.

Regarding environmental consciousness, their goal is to ensure the planet remains habitable forever. Ethical labour refers to their aim of providing dignified, safe, and fair working conditions to all workers throughout their supply chain. In terms of social advancement, Tenere is dedicated to using their platform to affect positive change through activism and allyship. Lastly, principled corporate governance is Tenere’s promise to consumers that they will always balance profit with purpose.

Transparency is also at the forefront of Tenere’s mission (they even refer to it as “The North Star” for the brand). That is why their website details the aspects of their business where they think they’re doing well, in addition to the aspects where they could be doing better. The former is referred to as “The Good,” while the latter is referred to as “The Needs Improvement.”

In addition, a QR code is assigned to each item. When customers scan the QR code, a comprehensive list of details for that item will appear. Such details include certifications, material sourcing, environmental footprint, ethical worker pay/policies, and supply chain.

Aspects the brand believes they need to improve is their dependence on air transport within the supply chain, their use of synthetic fabrics (although they are recycled, Tenere notes that many of the fabrics they use aren’t biodegradable and are made from fossil fuels), and their transparency regarding ethical labour (they admit there are a few partners in their supply chain that they do not have direct contact with).
