New York-based skin-care brand Circumference, helmed by husband-and-wife team Chris and Jina Kim, has just debuted its latest eco-friendly product, a vegan moisturizer made from grape waste.

Circumference’s Active Restorative Moisturizing Cream is the first launch from the label’s new “Waste-Not” sourcing initiative and utilizes grape leaf extract as the key ingredient. The grapes leaves are ethically and sustainably sourced from the family-owned winery and vineyard Bedell Cellars. The grape leaves, which is a byproduct of the wine-making process, is typically discarded from its harvests.

Circumference collects the unwanted grape leaves and through a slow chemical-free method extracts their high concentration of skin-benefiting antioxidants, gentle enzymes, and polyphenols and turns this into the label’s potent Vitis Vinifera Extract.

Included are Vitamins A and K, which helps to reduce redness and inflammation, as well as manic acid by gently exfoliating the surface layer of the skin. On the other hand, polyphenols help to protect skin from damage and free radicals. To close the loop, the mulch is then returned to the vineyard to be used for the following season’s compost.

Another key ingredient in Circumference’s Active Restorative Moisturizing Cream is snow mushrooms which can carry five times the water retention of hyaluronic acid. Fan-favourite hyaluronic acid is still, of course, on the list of ingredients along with sacha inchi, a less-known skin saviour, prickly pear seed, and marula seed. This trio, in particular, leaves skin feeling soft and smooth. Finally, the cream includes peptides, which not only helps to promote collagen and elastin production but strengthens the skin barrier.

Unlike most products that are currently on the market, Circumference’s Active Restorative Moisturizing Cream is an airy and textured cream that will not leave your skin feeling greasy and boats a fresh, light floral scent.

On top of its list of ethical and sustainably sourced ingredients, the moisturizer arrives in eco-friendly and recyclable packaging in the form of a glass bottle and paper.
